Hola Chicos y Chicas!
So I thought I would write up a little something about my break. It was a shitload of fun - I love hanging with you guys! Highlights of the month or so?
1. New Years - "it seemed like a good idea at the time!"
2. Snowboarding - Next time I'll go down forward!
3. Watching the US Olympic Snowboarding Qualifiers - <3 Shaun White
4. Skating - It took being back on the ice again to realize how much I missed it
5. Disney Princess's on Ice - my mom took me - At first I looked and there were no seats - but miraculously two days before the show we got second row center seats!
6. Diner Visits - frequent and plentiful
So... you might realize that's not really a lot. So... what I spent most of my time on break was watching movies! So... about quarter? through the break, I decided to write my thoughts on the movies I watched to give you an idea of my thoughts or whatever. Sooo here they are (I've included a couple TV shows I watched over a couple of hours of because they rock too). Stared Movies I watched more then once. Be cautious - I can't promise that these are completely free of spoilers - Although I did try that way!
Project Runway
Loves it! Sooo much fun - I love Santino's work most of the time (when he's NOT pissing off the judges) and Daniel Vosovic designs well (and what a cutee!). Kara needs to go - NOW!!!
Star Trek: The next generation
I'm a god damn Trekkie - I missed my Trek over break. Luckily, I saw a couple of my favourites (Yesterday's Enterprise, Measure of a Man), and a couple that I really wanted to watch ((unofficial titles) Lal episode, Intoxicating Virus epi). If you've never watched Star Trek - I highly recommend trying it - so mfing addictive! and Fun, especially once you know everyone.
Twilight Zones
Fun - some suck, but others Rock. I liked the episode with the Dummy and also the one... with the Miracle Street? and the Cemetery Asteroid?
Skating with Celebs
I just like it because I'm a skater.
Brokeback Mountain
So, ever since I saw the first preview for Brokeback Mountain, I knew it would be a movie I wanted to see. First off, let me comment on how friggen gorgeous Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhal are. I've always been a Heath Ledger fan... but now I also love Jack Gyllenhal... go figure. Anyway, beyond that, the story is beautiful. The movie itself is incredibly sad and the actors all did a wonderful job of portraying the story. If you have the opportunity, please go see this movie, you won't regret it.
King Kong
This movie was incredibly long. I usually don't mind long movies too much, but wow... I think it was over two hours before Kong made an appearance. Great special affects and directing of course, I'm always a fan of Peter Jackson. I don't think it was as amazing as my brother and some others think it was, but still really good. It might be pretty lame though, on a computer or TV screen - with something that big its really better to see it in theatres.
Muinch
I LOVED this movie! Although it made me very paranoid, I think it did an excellent job of showing what the situation was between Israelis and Palestinians. Unfortunately, I feel really ignorant on the subject, especially of recent on goings. I really liked how the movie made a point of how if you take out one radical leader, there is probably another one right in line and that one could even be worse. I also liked how you could see both sides from the movie, even though it was focused on the Israeli team. It makes me wonder if there ever can be an agreement reached. Is it possible for both sides to be happy? Anyway, I highly highly recommend this movie. Although, it is again very long. At least Eric Bana <3 is really nice to look at.
The Ringer
I had really really really low expectations for this movie... it turned out better then I thought. Yeah... you keep thinking when you're watching it, or before you go to see it, that its really a wrong wrong concept. Which is true... but if you keep reminding yourself that it is supported by the special Olympics, it make you feel a little better. There are some really funny parts (even if you feel semi-guilty for laughing at them) and Johnny Knoxville is a cutie.
Titanic *
Okay! I admit it. I not only watched this movie over break, but I watched this movie several times over break. Pathetic? Maybe. When I watch it, I alternate between poking fun at it (cmon - how corny is the whole "You jump I jump" thing? Give me a break), getting angry at it ( You know, if Rose hadn't jumped out of the god damn lifeboat, then Jack would have had the entire door thing to himself, not that they tried to fit two people on it for very long...), and actually being saddened by it. I think when it came out, I was too young to recognize Leo Dicaprio's beauty. He's a pretty boy... but I think I like pretty boys.
Harold and Kumar *
This movie is hilarious. Every time, so fucking funny, it doesn't get old. I know a lot of it by heart, it doesn't matter to me, I laugh every time. I'm really excited for the second one - but I don't think that's till next year?
Predator
Ahhh, can you get much greater then buff steroid man Arnold and awful special effects? Probably, but I still really enjoy it. Maybe because it was one of the first rated R movies (~ 3 years old?? All I know was that it was a long time ago) and I've also seen it about a billion times? I really like it, check it out if you haven't seen it.
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King *
Another movie I've seen most likely over a 100 times. (.... I swear to god... I do other things while I'm watching these!!) I really missed my LOTR at school - its hard to believe I went like four months without seeing a lord of the Rings movie (is that sad?). There's no excuse for not seeing this movie :) If you haven't seen it... Let me know, and we'll make a night of it.
Exorcism of Emily Rose
This movie was okay. We rented it looking for something scary.. I was disappointed, although I must admit I don't get very scared by horror movies. SOme of the scenes were really horrifying... but not scary. Seen the original Exercist? The remake? Excerist Beginnings? Stigmata? Yeah, I think I've seen all of them and I can't really tell them apart - same creepy people/similar circumstances in all of them. This one is interesting though, because they throw in a Court Room drama also - which is a nice change and interesting to see how the lawyer approaches the case.
Madagascar
I thought this movie looked horrible when I first saw the previews. But I ended up really liking it. Especially the penguins. Kudos to Jess, who pointed out the main conflict of the movie wayyyyy before I would have noticed it otherwise. Maybe I'm just slow... ? The animation was pretty decent. ALthough - can anyone tell me what a Fossa is?
Ju-on
aka original version of the Grudge. Again, disappointing. Awful special effects. I must admit, if some of the events happened to me, I would be in serious therapy, on screen it was just lame. A lot of it was really confusing and unexplained - especially when they kept introducing new people and giving names to them - it was sooo difficult to keep everyone straight! And also, when each scene took place.
Spellbound
As a documentary, it wasn't really that interesting. Random fact: I went to school with the cover boy of the movie (Harry Altman). I was in a bunch of his classes the year he went to the national spelling bee, but I moved the next year. If you think any of the way he acts is an act, I swear to god to you, he was the same way everyday in my classes. Anyway, these kids are fucking intestine. I could never imagine doing that especially when I was a little kid - I wonder how many of these people are at Hopkins? One things for sure, I'll never let my kid go crazy for a goddamn spelling bee.
13 Going on 30 *
I really like this movie. I thought it would be pretty bad - but I love it! Its so cute and there are these great random 80's references. And they do the Thriller dance. SO cool.
Finding Neverland
This movie is so much fun. For those who aren't sure what it's about, it details some aspects of the life of J.M. Barrie, the genius who wrote Peter Pan. The play itself, was semi autobiographical, but not exactly, so its not... reallyyy a story just about the boy Peter Pan. Anyway, its wonderfully acted by Johnny Depp (who isn't the best eye candy in THIS movie, but is still awesome) and Kate Winslet. The kids are awesome too. Tissue warning though, the end is very sad.
A Christmas Story *
Thank you TBS, for once again having 24 hours of A Christmas Story. This movie has so many classic spots - its hard to determine just one favourite scene - although I have always loved it when Flick's tongue got stuck to the flag pole. Anyway, if you haven't seen this movie, make it a point to watch it next Christmas Eve. Its such a classic (and on continuously for 24 hours!)
Flipper
I didn't get to see all of this - but I wanted to point something out. How is it that Elijah Wood, who is like the main human character of this movie, can go for like... long long sections of time pitchout speaking AT ALL. It was amazing! He just uses those "big... blueee" eyes... hahahaha so funny - I can't believe I usedto like it so much!
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Is it possible that it was the first time I'd seen this movie? Well... it was! It was soo funny - Jim Carrey is amazing _ I don't know how he has the stamina to keep it all the time! The fact that he and T.Witterschien are almost twins makes it even the more amusing! Yessss Satan? I'm sorry... I thought you were someone else!
Starsky and Hutch *
I think this movie has a really unfair reputation. I think its really good - although I must confess to my undying love of Owen Wilson. Think about it though - how could a Owen WIlson/Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughn combination be so bad? I've never seen the original tv series, was it?, so I don't have much of a comparison, but I really enjoy it.
Gordy
I remember I really used to like this movie. Watching it again... and trying to explain it to a friend who hadn't seen it, its pretty awful. I mean, I still seem to like it because it was one I enjoyed when I was a child, but the whole concept is pretty lame.
Alice in Wonderland *
I hadn't seen this in forever! Beyond the shocking revolution that the white rabbit is the same voice actor as Smee from Peter Pan, and Alice is indeed Wendy also from Peter Pan, I was amazed about how little of this movie I remembered! And now I totally remember why so many druggies like this movie. Bright colors... random people... oh yes, I defiantly can understand. Fun though - I want to have an Unbirthday party!
The Jungle Book
Moglie is a little monkey! hAhahah and Bagueria sucks! hahahaa I love the songs from the movie - and sing along loudly and proudly. Although there are some points that make you wonder - what the fuck were they thinking putting that in a kids movie?? or maybe we're just dirty... quite the possibility. Still wonderful movie!
Pinocchio
Wow, did I have this movie backwards in my head. Things that I would have sworn happened in the very end happened of the movie, were really one of the first things to happen. To think of it, I can't believe I enjoyed this movie as a kid - it is really quite scary!!! I don't remember the Fox at all - and can you believe they use the word ass in a kids movie? Anyway, it was fun - I really like it, but, can I point out that while this movie is based upon Pinocchio's nose growing, this only happens ONE time the entire movie?? Ridiculous! hahahah Always a classic though!
Memoirs of a Geisha
A warning - bring a cushion! While this movie isn't that long, it seems that way! Anyway, it was very well done and quite interesting. How I would love to have the skill to stop a man in his steps with a single glance! Sigh! I did find the girl's obsession more then slightly disturbing... but overall very interesting with good plot turns to keep it going.
Hitch *
I saw this movie when it came out in the theatres and I thought it was really cute then and I still think so. Will Smith is always funny and this movie is no exception. And the relationships are adorable! SighhhhhH! On second thought, it might not be too great for singletons... but its still great for a laugh!
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
Again, I had seen this movie in theatres but this one I didn't remember too much of. Some parts of it were funny, although, I hear compared to the book its pretty awful. I didn't think it was thattt bad, but certainly not one of my favourites either.
Troy
Number 1 reason to watch Troy: Hot men, short skirts. Sorry boys! Good battle scenes but other then that? It makes me realize how ignorant I am - is reading the Iliad worth the pain it was to read the Odyssey? Can anyone tell me what is true about ancient history? Because I have no idea and it makes me feel really stupid. Any help appreciated!
Cool Runnings *
This is a decent movie, although I wouldn't give it the high acclaims that some do. It's amusing, if nothing else. Also great to watch to get you psyched for the winter Olympics in February - yeah bobsledding!
Matchpoint
I enjoyed it. Although John Rhys-Meyer, hot as he is, ended up annoying the shit out of me at the end of the movie. The director did a wonderful job of using the score to compliment the movie - I honestly felt anxiety during the movie on behalf of some of the characters. Check it out if you get the chance.
Fast and the Furious
Uh... is it sad that I like this movie? While I've never bothered to see the second one, the first one is very intriguing. Granted, I know the plot isn't great... nor the acting... or the special effects... or really anything - but I really enjoy watching it. Maybe its the characters? The fast as hell cars? Who the hell knows. The second one looks like shit
Peter Pan (2003) *
Let me start off by saying that the animated version will always hold a special place in my heart. According to my Mom, when I was growing up - we were ALWAAAYYSSSS watching Peter Pan! That being said - if this is true for you - do not expect the same thing. I do enjoy watching it though - and am glad to see some of the elements from the play incorporated in this movie that were otherwise left off. Some of the quotes are exact!
The Boondock Saints
First off - excellent eye candy! I want a nice irish boy... anyone up for a trip to Europe (or a pub..?)? Anyway, I thought this movie was really interesting and brought up some interesting questions. Gianna had to do some explaining from it - maybe because we watched it in pieces and talked over some of the explanations they gave. The guy from this movie who was in Spiderman was really creepy. And I kept thinking they're friend was Johnny Damon.
OCeans 11
I er-... never saw this movie. I still haven't finished it - but it looked fun! Anyone want to watch the rest with me?
The Terminal
Reallyyyy cute movie, but very long if your going to sit through it all in one shot. Tom Hanks does a really good job - and Diego Luna is really cute. Interesting idea I guess... Oh, if you have trouble with accents - it might be a good idea to turn on subtitles if you can - the accent of Tom Hank's character is reallyyyy thick.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
Can you believe this movie came out almost 10 years ago? That places me freakishly at 9 years old... at most 10. That being said, I really don't think I understood most of the jokes in it. Also, when they play Austin Powers on tv - it is always Spy who shagged me.But of course, Austin Powers, always enjoyable, always a laugh. :)
Battle Royale
Interesting, bloody, but fun. Maybe too many characters? Also, all the characters names were completely lost to me - so I gave them nicknames - which worked fine with me. Check it out.
soooo thats my break in a... long explanation. How many is that there? over 30? ridiculous! Anyway, thanks for sticking with me this long - much love to EVERYONE!
